Krause revives religious freedom resolution

State Rep. Matt Krause (pictured) has filed a new version of a resolution, abandoned earlier this week by fellow Republican Rep. Jason Villalba, that seeks to amend the Texas Constitution to prohibit state and local governments from restricting the free exercise of rgz+032013+leg+17religion “in any way.”

Villalba, R-Dallas, said earlier this week that he would abandon his House Joint Resolution 55 after opposition from the Texas Association of Business, which said an amendment allowing people to use religion to discriminate would create a hostile business environment in the state.

Krause, R-Fort Worth, who had helped Villalba draft the resolution, worked with other conservative Republicans to find a way to revive the bill and ultimately filed a nearly identical version with House Joint Resolution 125.
